BACD Strategic Research Group
The Strategic Research Group, chaired by Prof Alan Colver, will have three main aims:
- To identify and encourage high quality clinical research in childhood disability taking place in Britain; in particular collaborative, multidisciplinary projects
- To determine priorities for further clinical research in this area
- To facilitate and support the development of a major application to MRC, Wellcome or NIHR
The committee size will be maximum eight - ten people. BACD members are invited to nominate themselves if they wish to be considered.
As well as trying to ensure wide geographical and professional discipline representation, the committee will seek members with one or more of the following:
- active in substantive research projects
- familiarity with the UK research environment
- time to take forward tasks related to delivering the above three aims

Deadline for applications: 30th April 2008. All applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application by 16th May 2008.

Paul Polani Research Fund 2009
The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the British Academy of Childhood Disability (BACD) are calling for applications to the Paul Polani Research Fund, which supports research in paediatric neurodisability in the UK.
Up to £7,500 is available to enable teams to pilot, undertake, or complete research projects based in paediatric neurodisability. Applications may be from teams or individuals (of any discipline).

Paul Polani Award Winner 2008
BACD is delighted to announce that the winners of the 2008 Paul Polani Award are Dr Jeremy Parr (Consultant Paediatrician) and Katie Price (Speech and Language Therapist) from the Augmentative Communication Service at the Wolfson Neurodisability Service, Great Ormond Street Hospital. Their winning project is entitled "Measuring the efficacy of computer communication intervention for children with cerebral palsy".
