Fight For Our Future is the product of engagement with hundreds of families and professionals, as well as Freedom of Information research of local services across the country, to find out how the current state of affairs for disabled children trying to access crucial support – particularly for specialist equipment.

This report reveals that only 2 in 5 families feel their disabled child has all the equipment they need. Despite rising numbers of disabled children, 60% of local services have seen waiting lists grow and nearly half have spent less on equipment in the last year.

Fight For Our Future is in collaboration with, and endorsed by, a number of other charities: Disabled Children Partnership, Royal College of Occupational Therapists, Caudwell Children’s, Whizz-Kidz, Family Fund, and British Healthcare Trades Association.

As a group of charities deeply concerned by the barriers disabled children face in accessing essential equipment, they call on the Government to make disabled children a priority at the next general election, and establish a dedicated Minister for Disabled Children who will ACT:

  • Accelerate equipment provision.
  • Cut assessment wait times.
  • Tackle staff shortages.
