Would you like to join the BACD Executive Committee?

BACD is proud to be a multi-disciplinary organisation for all professionals who work with disabled children and young people. We are keen to encourage our allied health professional and nursing members to join our executive committee to ensure that we are representative of our membership in leadership positions.

BACD is calling for applications to three trustee roles as follows:

Chair-elect, becoming Chair March 2023
The main role of the Chair is to assist the Chair and to lead on advocacy:

  • Chairing and facilitating EC and Trustee meetings  
  • Giving direction to policy-making  
  • Guide and mediate actions with respect to organisational priorities and governance concerns 
  • Bringing impartiality and objectivity to decision-making 
  • Policy development  
  • Representing the organisation at functions and meetings; acting as a spokesperson as appropriate (the Vice-Chair will normally act for the Chair when the he/she is not available) 
  • Liaising with the BACD Administrator and other trustees to keep an overview of the organisation's affairs and to provide support as appropriate 
  • Regular column in each edition of BACD News   

Vice-Chair
The main role of the Vice-Chair is to assist the Chair and to lead on advocacy:

  • Assist and support the Chair where necessary in conducting the business of the Executive Committee and to maintain close contact with Executive Committee members to ensure completion of follow-up work between meetings. 
  • Help prepare and/or co-ordinate responses to policy consultation documents (e.g. Government green papers, proposed new legislation, guidelines, or policy documents of related disciplines.) 
  • Leads the Academy’s advocacy work.

Honorary Secretary
The main role of the Secretary is to ensure the Academy fulfils its obligations of public benefit through its four pillars of workstreams.

  • Leads the Academy’s membership services in conjunction with the Administrator. 
  • Help prepare and/or co-ordinate responses to policy consultation documents (e.g. Government green papers, proposed new legislation, guidelines, or policy documents of related disciplines.)
  • Liaising with the Royal Colleges and other professional societies as appropriate.
  • Liaising with the Chair to plan meetings, approving the minutes, and checking that agreed actions are carried out.

We are also inviting applications to take up the vacant position of Deputy Academic Convenor

We are looking for applicants with experience of organising large CPD events, either locally or nationally, to work with the Academic Convenor in the organisation of BACD academic meetings, e.g. annual scientific meeting (ASM); session at RCPCH annual conference; webinar sessions. 

The successful candidate will have lots of ideas for future topics and themes to attract a large crowd, which will be of interest to all professionals working with disabled children and young people in the multi-disciplinary team. 

Whilst there is the option to step up to the role of academic convenor when the position becomes available, it is not a requirement or expectation of taking the deputy role.

The key roles are:

  • Assisting with the organisation of the programme for the BACD ASM, including identifying the theme and speakers, and reviewing submitted abstracts and poster presentations 
  • Assisting with the organisation of the BACD session at the RCPCH Spring Meeting (usually in conjunction with another specialty group)
  • Contribute to the development of BACD’s role in continuing professional development
