Guidance from a senior academic is essential to enable less experienced researchers to determine whether research projects, in the area where they are working, are realistic. Members of the SRG have a wide range of clinical experience, are all actively involved in research, and familiar with application processes to large funding bodies.

We think local projects should relate to and contribute to a broad based research programme at a UK centre where there is a co-ordinated programme of research in childhood disability, which covers a number of projects and disciplines. A trainee’s project might for example use similar measures or methodologies. This would ensure that the trainee receives structured research supervision from people with appropriate research skills.

The consultation service is free to BACD members and in the first instance to non-BACD members (though they will be encouraged to join BACD). The limits to the service offered are:

  • We will give generic advice to would-be researchers and put them in contact with others
  • We can look at broad aims of research projects
  • We cannot undertake full protocol reviews
